Technique Classes
Single discipline technique classes are offered for dances ages 10-18.
Genres include Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Tap, Acro, Hip Hop and Pointe. We focus on mastering technical elements of each genre, learning choreography, and performance quality. See below for class descriptions and approximate age descriptions.
Ballet
Ballet is the founding discipline of dance. Dancers are trained to be strong and precise by performing exercises at the barre and in center floor. There is a repetitive nature to a ballet class which allows dancers to perfect their technique. Ballet is an extremely important discipline for anyone who chooses to dance because all other dance techniques are drawn from it.
Ages: 10-18
Fall/Winter Class Times:
Ballet D/E - Tuesday 5:45-6:45pm
Ballet B - Thursday 7:00-8:00pm
Ballet A - Thursday 5:30-6:30pm
What to wear: Black leotard, pink tights. Ballet skirt (optional). Pink leather or canvas ballet shoes. Girl’s hair in clean, slicked bun.
Tap
Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies. Dancers are taught concepts such as syncopation and precision.
Ages: 11+

Toes Tap Tech - Tuesday 7:30-8:30pm
Heels Tap Tech - Thursday 5:00-5:30pm
Tap Tech 11+ - Thursday 6:30-7:00pm
What to wear: Leotard and tights (any color). Layered activewear: form fitting t-shirt or tank top, leggings or pants permitted. Black (matte) leather tie tap shoes.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop dance is a high energy dance form that utilizes popular music. Dancers enjoy a wide range of a workout between the strengthening exercises performed and the cardio that the combinations provide. Dancers may also be taught different hip hop “tricks” such as freezes; depending on the level of the class.
Ages: 11+

Thursday - 7:00-7:30pm
What to wear: Activewear: form fitting t-shirt or tank top. Leggings or pants. NO JEANS. Black or white INSIDE USE ONLY tennis shoes or Black Hip Hop Shoes.
Jazz
Jazz dance uses the technique of a ballet class and combines it with the high-energy of a hip hop class. Students are taught various turns, kicks, and leaps in combinations that are paired with upbeat music. Jazz dance also includes a strong focus on isolating body parts and differentiating between soft and strong movements.
Ages: 10+

Lyrical / Contemporary
Finds the balance between ballet and jazz. The free-moving nature of the genre allows the dancer to explore their technique in a creative atmosphere.

Emerald Lyrical Tech - Monday 5:00-5:40pm
Diamond Lyrical Tech - Monday 5:00-5:40pm
Crystal Lyrical Tech - Monday 5:00-5:40pm
What to wear: Leotard and tights (any color). Layered activewear: form fitting t-shirt or tank top, leggings or pants permitted. Capezio “Hanami” Pirouette shoes.
Jumps / Leaps / Turns
Borrowing from yoga, dancers are able to take their time and really warm up their bodies to reach the full potential of their muscles. Focus is required for the repetitive nature of this class, which will ultimately allow dancers to increase their flexibility. Progressions is the perfect class for the dancer who loves doing "across the floors" in their jazz class. Dancer's are able to build their jazz technique by learning simple combinations that become progressively more difficult throughout the year. Think jumps. leaps, and turns with little pieces of choreography mixed in!

Acro
Acro is a way for dancers to establish and improve tumbling skills and flexibility. Classes are designed to teach dancers different acrobatic tricks which they will learn to control. Dancers will benefit from a strong jazz background. Therefore they are required to be simultaneously enrolled in a jazz class.
Ages: 10+
Fall/Winter Class Times:
Acro Beginner/Intermediate - Wednesday 4:45-5:30pm
Acro All Levels (Intermediate/Advanced) - Saturday 1:20-2:00pm
What to wear: Leotard, shorts (any color). Convertible or footless tights. No loose fitting clothes. Barefeet.
Pre-Pointe
Prepointe is a preparatory class for dancers who would like to dance on pointe. Dancers will focusing on strengthening their ankles and associated muscles required to go on pointe.
Ages: 10+
Fall/Winter Class Time: Tuesday 5:15-5:45pm
Thursday 6:30-7:00pm
What to wear: Black leotard, pink tights. Ballet skirt (optional). Pink leather or canvas ballet shoes. Girl’s hair in clean, slicked bun.
Pointe
By recommendation only. Pointe is a ballet technique performed on the tips of the dancers toes in pointe shoes.
Ages: 12+

Pre-Elite
Pre-elite is an advanced, skill based class that is designed to train dancers who are interested in auditioning to compete at the Elite level.
Ages: 9-12, 13+
Fall/Winter Class Time: 9-12 Monday 6:15-7:00pm
13+ Thursday 8:00-8:45pm
What to wear: Leotard and tights (any color). Layered activewear: form fitting t-shirt or tank top, leggings or pants permitted. Tan Bloch “Super Jazz” slip on shoes.
Stretch / Skills
Stretch/Skills class is a great class to enhance the dancers physical fitness through flexibility, endurance, and strength training. Classes are designed to increase the dancers flexibility and strength that will benefit them in all genres.
Ages: 11+
